Subject:  MCMA Relief Payments

     Date:  October 2021

MCMA has an active relief program, and any member (or spouse or child of a deceased member) in need of financial help may contact the office to set up a meeting with our Relief Committee. All information that is given is to be held in strict confidence.

The Relief Committee is tasked with investigating any such requests we receive for financial assistance.  To assist in that process then-Chairman Bellomo and his committee in early 2020 developed a detailed financial questionnaire to help determine if the requestor’s circumstances are in fact “destitute” as our by-laws require.

If in the judgement of the full committee the need is deserving, their recommendation shall be submitted to the Board of Government, though the name of the individual involved shall be kept in confidence, If approval is received from the Board, the committee chairman will coordinate the approved payments with the Treasurer (or his designee).

The committee will annually verify with the recipient that the payments remain necessary, and report such information to the Board.

Insofar as feasible, the names of individuals receiving Relief payments shall be held in confidence. To this end, the monthly report of transactions that is submitted to the Board for approval will identify the payment simply as “Relief”, and no names will be included in the annual report presented by the committee at the Annual Meeting.
