Subject:  New Member Applications

Date:  May 2014 (Last updated September 2022)

•   An application can be submitted only by an existing member, whose responsibility it is to attest that the applicant meets both the Qualifications of Membership and the Conditions of Membership as set forth in our By-Laws.

a.  Qualifications deal with the applicant’s profession, and include any master mechanic (in a management role), manufacturer, engineer or architect engaged in an established business, or any owner or part owner of an established manufacturing or engineering business.

b.  Conditions require that the applicant be of good moral character, at least twenty-one years of age, and a citizen of the USA.

•   The application is to be submitted to the Board of Government, approved by a majority of the Board, and then referred to the Membership Committee.

•   The specifics of the application shall be emailed to the full membership, with a request that anyone knowing the applicant and wishing to comment, either in favor or against the application, respond to the email to express their opinion. Any comments received shall be referred to the Membership Committee.

•   At least two members of the Membership Committee shall conduct an interview with the applicant to satisfy the committee as to the suitability of the applicant for membership.

•   If the Committee is not so satisfied, it shall return the application to the Board and report its findings.

•   If the Committee is so satisfied, it shall notify the Board and shall present the application at the next regular meeting of the full membership, with its recommendation, and request a vote to accept the candidate as an Associate Member. Notices for that meeting, whether mailed or emailed, shall include the names of the candidates to be voted on.

•   As the membership will have already been given the opportunity to express any opposition to an application, and the committee will have already weighed such opposition, if any, in their evaluation and deemed it insufficient to derail the application, and the expectation is that the candidate’s application will be approved with little or no opposition, the candidates themselves shall be invited to attend the meeting at which their candidacy will be voted on, unless the Board of Government decides otherwise.

•   The Associate Member shall serve in that level of membership for at least one year, but not more than two years, during which time the Membership Committee shall confirm the Associate’s interest in MCMA and suitability for full membership. During that same time the Associate is able to directly see what MCMA is all about, and make a more informed decision as to whether he or she wishes to be a part of it.

•   Upon the recommendation of the Committee and the approval of the Board, the Associate will be offered full membership and will, upon subscribing his or her name to the Signature Book and paying the fee for membership, be granted full membership in the Association.
